Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens) is the holy wood of the Amazon. Used since ancient times by the Incas as a spiritual remedy for purifying and cleansing, Palo Santo has a soothing scent that calms your mind and spirit. Often used in Ayahuasca ceremonies, it is believed to cleanse a space and/or person of negative energies. It is also believed that Palo Santo enhances creativity and brings good fortune.
Burned as an incense and for smudging, Palo Santo wood sticks create a pleasant, fresh smelling smoke with hints of mint and citrus with underlying notes of frankincense.
Palo Santo wood sticks can be lit alone as is and will burn for a few seconds to a minute or so. They usually extinguish themselves, filling a space with a sweet warm fragrance. Or use with Swift-Lite charcoal.
The wood can also be ground and powdered and used in small amounts as an ingredient in incense mixtures. Palo Santo wood mixes wonderfully with any Copal resin incense.
